Double bill on 12 and 14 March : the 7-11 year olds performed Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations… written by Alan Ayckbourn Ernie is a boy with an incredible imagination – everything he imagines becomes real, much to the consternation of his parents. They take Ernie to the doctor’s in search of a cure but things don’t go exactly as planned. Secret agents, a boxing granny and mountaineering in the local library make this a hilarious story and fun for all ages. and the 11-13 year olds performed Rainbow's Ending by Noel Greig Two giants decide to have an eating competition. Between them they eat all the plants and animals in the world and then fall asleep for a hundred years. All the humans retreat for safety to high-walled cities and live in squalor, surviving only on the boiled bones of animals left by the giants. After a hundred years the giants wake up and are hungry again, but there is no more food to eat. They go to the cities in search of food, and begin to munch their way through the humans. Life has got so bad that the humans in cities decide to commit mass suicide. One girl, called Rainbow, thinks this is a bad idea and gathers together a small, like-minded group of friends. Together, they hatch a plan…. AND on 13 and 15 March, the 13-16 year olds performed Find Me by Olwen Wymark Verity Taylor suffers from an undiagnosed mental illness. Beyond control and relentless in her oppression of her helpless parents, Verity is tried, judged and sentenced. Finally she is incarcerated in Broadmoor, for the insignificant crime of setting light to a chair - 'from where she may not be discharged or transferred elsewhere without permission of the Home Secretary'. This play allows the audience to explore Verity's downward spiral and sheds light on the effect of her behaviour on her family. |
